I have just been to a party in a friend’s brand new basement. Well, the house has always had a basement of course, but she now has a great new window well which means that it is a much more usable space. She said that she would love to keep the space for parties and have one every week but she has promised it to her son. He is taking some very important exams in a few years time and needs a place to study which is quiet and tucked away from the rest of the house. So as well as having the new egress window wells to make it a brighter space, she has also fitted a small shower room in one corner and a kitchenette so he can be totally self sufficient if he needs to. There is plenty of room for his bed a desk as well as a small sofa and table to eat at. I think it is a fantastic idea as it will give him a sense of independence as well as his own space to study in and he will still be able to join the family whenever he needs to. This massive transformation is just thanks to a basement window well which is amazing. They also now have a spare bedroom upstairs which means that I will be able to stay over more often, which is great!
